Todd Akin, the Republican senate nominee from Missouri, claimed at an interview in a St. Louis television station, that if a woman was legitimately raped “the female body had ways to try to shut the whole thing down”. And that if, by any case, they didn’t work, and the rape ended up in an unwanted pregnancy, the punishment should be for the rapist an not for the kid (referring to abortion).
In my opinión, this is totally crazy. I bet that if he is not pulling that absurd theory of the female body being able to “shut down” out of his ass, the doctors who support it were probably paid to say it. Just like in the 40s, when they used to affirm that cigarettes weren’t harmful to your health. Plus, in case the victim turns out to be pregnant, even if the rapist is punished, he isn’t going to help the victim with the baby or take care of the child. With this being said, after all, the punishment for the rapist doesn’t really solve the problem of the victim.
But, hey girls, the good news is that the next time a condom breaks, you just need to tell your reproductive system that it was a rape and it will shut the whole thing down. No reason to worry about an unwanted pregnancy.
I was talking to one of my teachers and she told me that when she was little she hated English, not to mention that she had the worst grades on the subject. But life isn’t always predictable: who would expect her to end up as my English teacher? And a very good one.
Last week, I saw a McDonald’s stand in front of the Cultural Center of the school. I remembered what my friend Leonel told me about how the school now wants only to sell healthy food. They’re actually not selling any sodas or packaged food anymore, because they think this kind of food isn’t healthy for the human body.
Of course, being healthy is important, but there’s always time for a McDonald’s ice cream.
