“It’s Colombia, not Columbia”

COLUMBIA

It is a common mistake, and that’s why a group of marketing experienced Colombians, with the government support, are making this campaign with phrases like “The coffee you drank this morning might be from Colombia; Your outerwear might have been made by Columbia.”

The Facebook page of the campaign already has 20,300 likes and is still growing. The only purpose of the campaign is not quite to correct the grammar error; it is to take advantage of this, so foreigners and local people may have a better image of the country. “People outside of Colombia, especially in the United States, have a wrong impression of what Colombia is” said Zemoga’s vice-president Carlos Prado (a Colombian digital services company in the U.S.).

Lots of U.S. people are still thinking that Colombia is only drugs, Pablo Escobar, etc. But now Colombia has taken big steps in economy, culture, etc. and drug cartels and violence are less every year. That’s what this campaign is trying to say.

Something ironic is that artists and famous people sometimes write in Twitter or Facebook comments like “I’m so excited, I’m traveling to Columbia”. What they don’t know is the correct name of the country they are traveling to.

A generation of idiots

This is a video made by a group of people called Smosh. The video shows, in a parody-like style, how our generation is dependant of technology and how we would go mad if we didn’t have acces to it.

Smosh is an organization that makes videos and sells merchandice in the Internet. It was formed by with two guys called Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla. This videos became the most popular on YouTube in January 2013, and by now, in September, it has more than 12 million subscribers and 2.5 billion video views. Tthis team has expanded to videogame content videos, cartoon videos, and even apps.

In my opinion, this video shows exactly how I sometimes feel in the streets, at school, and sometimes even in my own classroom: people that wouldn’t be able to stand for 45 minutes without checking their messages or using their phones. It’s sad, because eventually what Einstein feared will become true.

Leonardo da Vinci: a different mind

leonardoI found this article about Leonardo da Vinci and it immediately caught my attention. Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the most creative engineers, scientists, famous painters and designers through 1.450 to 1.500.

This article talks about the life and work of da Vinci in a very brief way, which is encouraging for those of us who do not like to read a lot. I think this article focuses more on Leonardo’s paintings and art work, but also shows one of the most prominent inventions of Leonardo, which we still use today: the bicycle. His different, special mind was able to create amazing things that at that time nobody thought would exist.

This article about Leonardo is not quite  balanced: it talks much more about some things that others. But it still expresses a great amount of details that people might like to know.

Being a bullet

“La bala” (the bullet) is a song composed by the group Calle 13 from Puerto Rico. It’s a very good song, you could say that it’s a work of art. Many people do not know this song but instead have heard “Muerte en Hawaii”, from the same album.

The song is about how you would feel if you were a bullet in this world. It also explores the reasons why there are so many bullets in the world: lack of food and money. The song says that if the bullets would cost more, there wouldn’t as much. The lyrics are not very complicated, but that does not mean they’re easy.

This is one of the best songs I’ve heard, as is “Muerte en Hawaii”.

Can Bale stand up to Cristiano Ronaldo?

bale1In his autobiography, Harry Redknapp explains that Bale should assert himself at Real Madrid by saying “His biggest test will be to step out of the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo with confidence. That won’t be easy”. Gareth Bale has to stand up to Cristiano because if not he will be an €86m fringe player.

It could be a similar case to Kaka’s arrival to Real Madrid in 2.009 which wasn’t a successful time for a former world player of the year. In these four years Kaka lost his confidence, in my opinion, because if you are on the bench every single game you start to think “what’s wrong with me”?

Kaka probably didn’t assert himself on the team.

Kaka’s example shows what Gareth Bale shouldn’t do. It is important to maintain his confidence in order to be successful in Real Madrid. to achieve this, he should find the balance with Cristiano so they can both play in the same team at their best levels together.

Ronaldinho wants Paris Saint Germain

PSG_RonaldinhoRonaldinho should end his career at a big club because he still has a lot of potential. It would be an honor similar to David Beckham retiring at Paris Saint Germain.

And as a matter of fact, Ronaldinho wants to go to Paris Saint Germain because he has history there. It was his first big club in Europe and it was an important step to move then to FC Barcelona, where he played his best football. In this time with Barca, he won the FIFA World Player of the year award, two Spanish leagues and a UCL title.

I think it would be good for Paris Saint Germain to see Ronaldinho end his career with them, because of his football history with the club. Besides, it would be good publicity for the club as he is an ambassador of good football and a very fair and loved player with a great personality.

When two become one

“Mirrors” is a song by the 32-year-old American  singer Justin Timberlake.

He is from Memphis, Tennessee. He’s a composer, actor, record producer, dancer and businessman.

This is an amazing song and a video that you should watch. I like so many things in this video but the most important is that the pictures show us the reality of what’s going to happen whe we become old. When a couple is formed and one of them dies, recollections of youth arise: the games, the amusements, the diaries, the photograph frames, the things that they shared and the projection of their existence, like their children, and the grandson, whom his grandmother delivers to the matrimonial hoop to make him happy, as she was in her youth.

The video finishes with a room of mirrors where several images appear: the couple turns then into one person.

I really recommend this video.

Can’t hold us

Benjamin Haggerty or Ben Haggerty is known by his pen name “Macklemore”. He is a rapper and musician from the United States. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis produce the  video “Can’t hold us “.

The video show the contrast  between the nature, the climate and the urban life. Wonderful landscapes, between the snow, the big pines, forests, mountains, the immensity of the sea. The spectacular dawns and late afternoons. Animals like the camel, the kangaroo, the bobsled of the dogs in the snow. Transport means like a car, planes, ships, boats and motorcycles. Big buildings. It reflects on elderness and youth, the different conditions of the human being to the wonderful sound of the trumpets and the violins.

I invite you to watch this amazing video.

Transform your world

ThePianoGuys are an American musical group conformed by John Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Tel Stewart, Paul Anderson and Al van der Beek. This group became famous through YouTube making covers of famous songs.

Beethoven 5 Secrets is a cover of the song Secrets by One Republic accompanied by a small part of the 5th Symphony of Beethoven. When you hear the song, your world is transformed immediately. You forget all your problems and you enter in a trance with lots of feelings. After you hear the whole song, the melody of the cello remains in your head creating a moment of calm.

I invite you to hear the song, especially if you had a bad day.

The world is crap

The title of this song is “Cambalache”. It was written by Enrique Santos Discepolo. It is a Tango.

I really like this song because it talks about the reality of society, explaining how life is. According to this song, the world has always been crap, it has been the same and it will never change. Listen to it: the song will make you think.
